William Arthur Appleby, 86, of Bozeman, MT passed away on December 25, 2011 with his family by his side. He was born on September 25, 1925 to Arthur Douglas and Henrietta (Van Orden) Appleby in Denville. He attended high school in Morristown, and college at Michigan State University. In 1943, he joined the United States Army Air Force during WWII. After the war, William married Margaret Louise Barnard on March 22, 1946 in Ironia. Together they raised three children.
He was a well known claims adjuster in Northern New Jersey for 30 years. He retired from the Dept. of Risk Management of Morris County.
William enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including hunting, flying, and shooting and visiting with family later in life. He had a passion for firefighting. He was a member of the Morristown Fire Dept. Independent Hose Co. #1 and the Randolph Township Fire Dept. Ironia Chemical Engine Co. #4.
William was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret Appleby; daughter, Leslie (John) Halko; sons, Henry (Tracy) and Andrew Appleby; seven grandchildren, Derek and Devin Ard, Shaun and Josh Halko, and Justin, Casey, and Kaitlin Appleby; seven great-grandchildren, Blake and Hannah Ard, Damus, Sarya, and Shayla Ard, Taylor, and Livia Appleby.
Visitation will be held at the Tuttle Funeral Home Thursday, January 5th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. (www.tuttlefh.com)
A Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Jan, 6th at the Tuttle Funeral Home with interment following in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Chester Township.
