Charles R. Carson, Sr. died peacefully on April 4 at Andover Nursing Home with his family at his side. He was 84. Born in Pompton Lakes NJ, he lived most of his life in Dover NJ before moving to Sparta in 1983 in a home he designed. He retired in 2000 from D/C Automotive, a successful automotive electric business he and his business partner co-founded and ran for 27 years.
He was a generous man who loved his country, his family, and the life he and his wife shared for 59 years. Known as a man who could fix anything, he was a loyal friend who never hesitated to use his talents to help others.
He loved to sing barbershop harmony and was a member of the national Barbershop Harmony Society for 41 years. For the past 35 years he sang tenor in the Morris Music Men barbershop chorus as well as many area quartets. In the 1960s he served as a member of the Morris County Grand Jurors Association, a role he spoke of proudly throughout his life.
He was predeceased by his brother Alfred Carson, Jr. and his wife Margaret, and his son-in-law Martin Lissy in 2004. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Grace (Hoffman), his daughters Trudy Lissy of Succasunna and Cynthia Bachman and her husband James of MA, and his son Charles Robert, Jr. (Bob) and his wife Janet of Whippany. He is also survived by his nephew Joseph Carson of Florida and his niece Donna (Carson) Gustavsen of Rhode Island, as well as his grandchildren James, Glenne, Andrew, and Alex Bachman of MA, and Kara Lissy of Succasunna.
Visiting will be on Wednesday April 8, 2009 3 – 5 PM and 7– 9 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph NJ. A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday April 9, 2009,10:00AM at the funeral home. Interment at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
