William Louis Barrett, 82, of Dover, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, October 5th, 2010. William was born in Winnipeg, Canada and has been a resident of Dover since 1959.
He was a Parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, Dover since 1959 and served as Treasurer of Parents Guild for 4 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He worked as an Electrical Engineer at Picatinny Arsenal, Rockaway Township, retired in 1997 after 45 years working with the U.S. Government.
A 1952 graduate of U.S. Naval Academy and N.J.I.T. in 1965 with an Electrical Engineering Degree. Served on the Dover Board of Education for many years and retired in 2002, and also Board of Adjustment where he served as a Chairman for many years. Honorary member of Boy Scout Troop #64 at Sacred Heart Parish for 5 years. Member of Roxbury Model Airplane Club and enjoyed model railroading. After Naval Academy served as an officer in U.S. Navy for 7 years. Active member of Naval Reserves until 1970 when he became a retired reservist. Active member of the Naval Academy Alumni Society.
Survived by his wife Laverne of 58 years; 8 children Elizabeth Barrett of Budd Lake, Anne Becker of East Stroudsburg, PA, Pamela Barrett of Denville, Melissa Barret of Apple Valley, MN, Melanie Guindon and husband Richard of East Stroudsburg, PA, Kathryn Barrett and John Zani of Washington, William J. and wife Jaclyn of Stanhope and Amy Gathagan and husband Robert of Wharton. Also survived by 7 grandchildren Patrick Ceres, Emily Becker, Andrew, Caitlin, & Ryan Guindon, Jocelyn Thompson, and Haylee Gathagan and 1 great-grandson Tristan Pringle.
Visitation Thursday, October 7th, 2010, 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).
Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church, Dover, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 8th, 2010. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
