Beloved wife, mother and sister
Margaret K. "Peggy" Maguire, 71 died on April 23, 2009 after a short illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Wharton, Monday, April 27, 2009, or a memorial service at St. Mary of the Lake in Lakewood, Tuesday, April 28, 2009, 10 a.m.. Interment is at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visitation will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home, State Route 10 East, Randolph, Sunday, April 26, 2009, 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. (www.tuttlefh.com)
Born in Montclair, Peggy was raised in a tight knit Irish Catholic family, in the Newark/Oranges area. She attended St. Michael's R.C. school of Newark, staying active with the school the Sisters of Charity and the lifelong friends she made while attending.
Peggy, her husband Norman and their family moved to Mine Hill in 1974 and lived there for almost 30 years. She was a Mortgage and Insurance clerk for 15 years at Charter Federal Bank of Randolph. She was an office manager with the Ferraz Corporation of Parsippany, before retiring in 2002, and moving with her husband to Renaissance of Manchester, NJ.
Over the years, Peggy was extremely active in numerous organizations. Growing up in Newark, she coached the school CYO basketball team. In Mine Hill, she helped to stock and staff the first town library, and volunteered there for over 20 years. She was the President and active member of the local PTA for over 10 years. In Manchester, she was the President of the Renaissance unit of the Kimball Medical Center Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Irish American Club, and was a Queen Mother of the Red Hat Queens. In 2007, Peggy was recognized by the NJ State Assembly as one of its Volunteers of the Year.
Peggy leaves behind her loving husband of almost 44 years, Norman of Manchester, NJ; four children Kathleen of Succasunna, Kenneth of Dover, Christine of Landing, Patricia and her partner Catherine, both of Kenvil; four nieces and nephews, Kelley Desmond, Robert Maguire, Brian Desmond, and Tracey Fascia. She was also a proud Godmother of three. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Desmond, and her parents James and Margaret A. Desmond.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations of time or money to your local civic organization, in honor of Peggy's commitment to her community.
