ONE OF THE “GREATEST GENERATION”
Henry Boschen passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011. He was born to Capt. Henry Boschen, Sr. and Bertha Hilton Boschen at US Marine Base, Quantico, VA in 1922. Hank served with the 877th Airborne Engineer, 101st Aviation Battalion Division in the European Theater of Operations, WWII and later with the USMC Reserves. He married his beloved wife, Jane Tygar Boschen in 1947. Hank worked for Bell Labs, Whippany for 27 years and retired as a senior designer.
Hank is survived by his wife, Jane Tygar Boschen of Randolph, NJ; daughter, Edith J. Boschen of Chester, NJ; sisters Audrey Ackerman of Leesburg, FL and Beverly Pfau of Dover, NJ; grandchildren, Robert and Jennifer Boschen; great-grandchildren, Kylie, Corbitt and Cayman; and his loyal dog, Rusty. He was deeply loved by his extended family, Steve Hammond, Melissa Boschen, Jewelia Rosenbaum, Ken and Morgan Hammond; and Kerry and Sarah Kershner-Hammond. Hank was pre-deceased by his sisters, Marie Boschen LeMaistre and Jeanne Boschen Tomey.
Hank was an avid reader, world traveler, pilot, award-winning photographer and artist, ham radio operator (handle KB2XT), carpenter and writer. He received the American Theater Ribbon, European-African-Eastern Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during WWII, Bell Labs Photography Club, Whippany Amateur Radio Club, Roxbury Art Association, Masonic Lodge (Jepthah) Rockaway, Pioneers Bell Labs, and Mt. Fern United Methodist Church.
He attended Wharton High School, Clifford Scott High School, NJ Chamberlain Aircraft School, Cornell University Extension, Blairstown Aeronautical School, NY Institute of Photography, and County College of Morris
Memorial service to be held at Frelinghuysen Arboretum, Fri., Sept. 16, 2011 at 3pm in the Knot Garden. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Mt. Fern United Methodist Church, 443 Quaker Church Rd., Randolph, NJ in memory of Henry Boschen.
Cremains to be buried at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA with his father, Capt. Henry William Boschen, Sr.
