Obituary of Gail Phillips

Dr. Gail Phillips, 77, of Rockaway Township, NJ passed away Sunday, January 19th, 2014 at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ. Dr. Phillips was born in Schenectady, NY. She worked as a College Chemistry Professor at SUNY Cortland, Cortland, NY and retired in 2004 after 37 years. Dr. Phillips received her B.A. in 1960 and her Ph.D. in 1966 from Syracuse University and an M.S. in Computer Science from SUNY Binghamton. She was an Associate Professor of Chemistry at SUNY Cortland and a member of the graduate faculty. Gail was also active in the Cortland Fire Department, directed the Red Cross Summer Swim Program for over 30 years, and was an active member of the Cortlandville Grange. She is survived by her daughter Roberta Phillips Principe and her husband Gerald and her sister Susan Pennoyer Robie and her family. Also survived by three grandchildren J.T., Robbie, and Anthony. Visitation Wednesday, January 22nd, 2014, 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph, NJ (www.tuttlefh.com). Funeral Mass at St. Simon the Apostle R.C. Church, 1010 Green Pond Road, Rockaway Township, NJ 07435 (973-697-4699) at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014. There will also be a visitation at the Bertini-Riccardi Funeral Home, 69 North Main Street, Cortland, NY 13045 (607-753-1053) on Thursday, January 23rd, 2014, 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.. After the visition, family and friends are invited to The Community Restaurant at 6:30PM. Graveside Service Friday, January 24th, 2014, 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cortland, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in memory of Gail Phillips to the American Red Cross of Cortland County, 50 Clinton Avenue, Cortland, NY 13045.
