John Stuart Inglis, 81, of Dover, New Jersey passed away at Arden Courts on Tuesday, July 28, 2009. He was born in Williamsport, Pa. Mr. Inglis graduated from Scranton High School in 1946 and served in the U.S. Navy aboard a destroyer from 1946 to 1948. He then attended Mergenthaler School to learn linotyping after service. His jobs included work at the Seventh Day Adventist Printing Company, the Lakeland News and the Dover Advance from 1962 to 1996. Mr. Inglis joined the Acacia Lodge # 20 F. & A.M. in Dover and received his 50-year Masonic token in 2006. Some of his community services and activities included membership in Rockaway Rebekah Lodge # 86, alternate to Morris MCCoOPO, treasurer of the Dover Area Historical Society, jam maker for church fairs and Financial Secretary of the First United Methodist Church of Dover. He recently received his 50-year membership certificate from 1UMC of Dover. Mr. Inglis was the bus driver for the Memorial Presbyterian Church Vacation Bible School and Community Christian Summer Program. He received a special membership from Grace United Methodist Church for his help with pasties. For the past forty years, Mr. Inglis loved to vacation with his entire family at Cape Cod.
Mr. Inglis is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Reeve Inglis; his daughters, Mary Christine Pawlowski and husband John of Littleton, Colorado and Catherine Inglis Malman and husband Thomas of Mendham; his sons, William Reeve Inglis and wife Mary of Dover and J. David Inglis and wife Anne Marie of Moorestown; grandchildren, Amy, T.J., Jack, Sarah, Liz, Joe, Rebecca, Harry, Cayla, Nate, Kate, Carolyn and Will; great-grandchildren, Alexis and Aiden; sister-in-law Greta Inglis; nieces, Gretchen Sienicki and husband Gregory, Melinda Inglis and three great nephews all of Huntsville, Alabama. Mr. Inglis is preceded in death by his parents, John and Christine Inglis and brother William Bell Inglis of Huntsville, Alabama.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. on Thursday at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph (WWW.Tuttlefh.com). A Masonic service will be held on Thursday at 8:00 P.M. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday at First United Methodist Church, 41 East Blackwell Street, Dover 973-366-1804. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those desiring may make donations to First United Methodist Church of Dover or the Dover Area Historical Society
