George Curtis Jackson: A Celebration of Life & Homegoing
George Curtis Jackson was born on July 1, 1944 in Morristown, New Jersey to Jeanette Moorer and Harvey Jackson Sr., he was the third born of six children.
Growing up in a loving Baptist home, his mother instilled in him and his sisters and brothers the importance of serving God and others; and as a result, at age 19, George—affectionately known as Curt and Curtie—enlisted in the United States Army and bravely served his country for nine years before being honorably discharged. After which, he served in the United States National Guard for two years.
Curt continued to dedicate his life to serving others by caring for the mentally challenged at the historic Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, located in Morris Plains, New Jersey where he served as a psychiatric technician for 26 years. During that time, he also shared his love of cooking by serving as sous chef for various well-known restaurants and vacation resorts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Along with his wife, Shirley, in 2014 Curt rededicated his life to Christ and became a faithful member of Rockaway, New Jersey’s Christ Church and occasionally served the Morristown and Paterson New Jersey chapters of the Salvation Army.
Curt was an avid chess player, he also enjoyed playing with his dog, Tina, watching movies, dining out—especially at the Randolph Diner, Red Lobster, The Olive Garden and the Sakura Grill & Buffet, which were his favorite “go to” places for Italian dishes, seafood and sushi—and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
George Curtis Jackson—our beloved Curtie—was called home by our Lord God on Thursday, March 22, 2018; therefore, today we proudly celebrate his life and his homegoing.
