Obituary of Richard Donald Howells

The family and friends mourn the loss of Dr. Richard D. Howells on April 13, 2017, after a brave fight with his illness. Dr. Howells was a highly accomplished research professor and dean at UMDNJ (now NJMS, Rutgers) for 30 years and served as a mentor to many PhD students. He was recognized for 25 years of distinguished service and received the Foundation of UMDNJ Excellence in Research Award. Richard was an avid tennis player and enjoyed playing guitar and traveling to Italy. Richard is survived by his loving wife Elena, his two sons Alessandro and Giovanni and many other family members who will always remember him with love. A private service was held at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (Tuttlefh.com). Donations in his memory can be made to the NJIT Scholarship Endowment or Drew University Scholarship/Financial Aid Fund.
