Obituary of Allen P. King

Allen P. King passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015. He was the son of the late Dr. Z.P. and Marguerite King. He was born in Minneapolis, raised in St. Paul, and attended college at the University of Minnesota where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering. He began his career at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. While there, he was drafted into the army during the Korean War. He came to New Jersey after his tour of duty and was employed by Picatinny Arsenal. He remained there throughout his 34 year career, working as a supervisory mechanical engineer in the missile and rocket warheads branch of the large caliber weapon systems laboratory. He exhibited a high degree of technical ability and versatility in contributing to the essential Special Projects program which was vital to our Nation’s defense. He was officially commended for his expertise in missile and rocket warheads which helped Picatinny Arsenal and the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps become a technological leader in modern weaponry systems.
He was also involved with many organizations and helped with his children’s activities. He was a member of the Dialysis Center of NW Jersey since its inception. He donated countless hours to the Kiwanis Club in which he served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Club. He was also the Chairman for the Entertainment Book Campaign and spearheaded their fundraising.
He is survived by his wife Helen with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage. His children include son Jeffrey and wife Debra, daughters Linda Steel and husband Allan, and daughter Lisa Morra. He is also survived by four loving grandchildren, whom he loved to spend time with, Ashley, Sean, Nicholas and Daniel. He is survived by his sister Marguerite Carleton and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are brother Edgar Wilson King and sisters Mary Catherine Cummings, Leone Chapman and Jean Paffel.
Visitation Wednesday, June 10, 2015, 3:00 – 5:00 PM and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10, West, Randolph ( www.tuttlefh.com ). Funeral Services will be on Thursday, June 11, 2015, 10:30 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows.
