Obituary of Eula M Williams
Eula Maude Williams was born July 1, 1928 in Blakely, Georgia to Pearly Mae Flowers and Samson March. She was a licensed beautician, a homemaker, and ran a home day-care for many years. She died peacefully in her sleep October 4, 2018 at St. Claire’s hospital in Dover, New Jersey.
Eula is survived by: Her brother Rudolphus March Sr. (Verdell March); her son Rodney Williams Sr. (Andrea Williams); her grandsons Jermaine March, Rodney Williams Jr., and Ronald Williams (Sara Williams); her granddaughter Amber Gilbert (Symeon Gilbert); her daughter-in-law Deborah March, along with her great grandchildren Izaiah March, ImaniNia Burton, and Savion March. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 30 years Eledger Berry Williams, and two sons Darrell Williams and Gregory March. She has countless nieces and nephews that also looked to her as a second parent.
Eula Williams was a strong woman with a big heart. Later in life she suffered with a lot of health problems but she championed through them all right to the end. You would never know how sick she was because she carried herself so well. You knew she was ok when she told you how it was. She was only 5 feet tall but always demanded respect that you would lovingly give.
Ms. Eula loved her family, her independence, and her crackers. Even when she was in pain, she always felt better with her unsalted saltine crackers. She had the sharpest memory and could tell you exactly what you were wearing to an event fifty years ago. During her last moments, she was telling her Sweet Pea (her granddaughter) all about her childhood in great detail as if it all happened a few years ago. Eula was not one who liked to be the center of attention. She would make a silly face if you tried to take a picture of her, and would want to be placed in “a corner out the way.”
Eula was someone with deep love and respect for God. When you talked to her about God she wanted you to speak facts from the bible, not your own opinion. Her life was centered around her favorite scripture Isaiah 40:31 from the King James Bible that said: “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” She taught her family to always live by the words found in Psalms 139:1-3. She especially liked verses 23 and 24 that said: “Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
As a mom she was self-sacrificing. She always put her children’s needs first before her own needs. Although the family was poor, you would never know it. She made sure everyone was clean and well fed. She was a loving wife and refused to remarry after Eledger died because she knew she would never find a love like they had. Although she had only 3 sons, she was mom to so many children, whether related by blood or not. Grandma Eula, as everyone affectionately called her, considered everyone her family. Eula was the one person you could talk to and confide in. Eula was known to be the one person everyone felt comfortable to confide in. She has even been called the “keeper of family secrets.” Eula Williams had a reputation as being a wonderful person, although when she put her hands on her hips, she was getting ready to tell you off. Even so, she leaves a legacy of unselfish love and so many life lessons. She wouldn’t want anyone to sit and cry over her. She would say: “this too shall pass.” Reflect on how much she has given her last to everyone in need. The countless kids she has taken care of. The amount of people she has been caretakers for. The countless individuals she has threatened under her breath. The numerous lives she has touched by simply being Eula Maude. She can now finally rest in peace, no more doctors or hospitals or sickness.
