I’m so sorry for your loss. The bible is so true when it mentions “the sting of death”. Death is truly painful for family and friends. The God of the bible Jehovah says he's going to “swallow up death forever and bring back to life on earth all those who have died in his memory” (Isaiah 25:8). This scripture has given me comfort and I pray you receive comfort from it also.

To the Poggi family I extend my deepest sympathy. What a beautiful video of your dear Johanna's life. How much pain you all must be feeling at this difficult time. Please know that Jehovah God sees your pain as well. To give us comfort and hope He gave His dear son Jesus and many Bible promises. Such as John 5:28-29, which promises that our loved ones who have passed away are in God's memory waiting for His son Jesus to call them back to life! Imagine seeing your dear Johanna again! What a wonderful time that will be! In time if you would like to know more about God's promises please visit jw.org. Again you have my sympathy.

You touched so many people throughout your life, giving strength to those that needed it, and kindness to everyone you encountered. Although your family and friends are grieving deeply right now, we are eternally grateful for the time we had with you. I will carry those cheerful memories with me when I reflect on your life, and carry your spirit with me everywhere I go. I love you so much, and will miss you every day.

Because I Didn’t Get to Say Goodbye…
They say you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone
But in my heart I knew it all along
Those early days at the mall, shopping, my two Johanna’s and me,
(they say I take after you in the stores, taking my time through every isle I see)
We’d browse thru the stores and always stop for lunch-“Friendy’s” was your choice-
you’d sit and listen to me talk (and talk and talk) in my little excited voice.
“Grandma, guess what? “ was my favorite phrase, and you always listened with heed
Even for the most soporific stories you managed to feign intrigue
Then one day you surprised me, with a “guess what” of your own
You told me that I shared a birthday with your favorite singer, Frank Sinatra let alone!
Childlike pride welled up inside, knowing I had a special connection with grandma.
And then there were half day Fridays in the summer, when mommy worked at the shop
We’d race around in the mornings and shed quickly drop us off
Your big warm embrace was like being absorbed by a cloud, and you always smelled so good
Slippers on and apron forever donned-you cooked like no one else could
But as a kid it was those “waffle sundays” that were such a delicious treat
and the addition of hot fudge that made the dish complete
Later we’d play all you your games, ones I otherwise would have never known-
Rumy500, Kings, Solitaire, Pickup Sticks, Yahtzee and Bingo
You’d teach us the rules and let us have a spin,
but in true Sicilian fashion, you’d never let us win!
Yes, grandma, you were a spitfire, and we’d know it if we acted out
you’d give you those eyes and tighten those lips and we knew we’d better not pout
But far more fierce than that look of discipline was the unending love you shared
To all your kids and grandkids and great grandkids it was never unclear how much you cared
Each and every child was special, you never forgot a single birthday, were always sharp as a whip
I never realized ‘til I was older that you were full of impressive wit!
I inherited my love of words and of reading from you-
oh, I almost forgot, it was you who started me on my beloved “Nancy Drew’s”!
Memories like these just keep flooding back- oh, another one-
my favorite phrase I learned from you about the curious cat? How satisfaction brought him back?
I can remember your face, your clever smirk and nod,
as my mother laughed and gave due applause.
But besides these warm memories I have of you grandma, I see now as a woman myself, who you were in this world, grandma.
Not unlike your namesake, Mary, you willingly sacrificed your life for your family
You did it with ease, you did it with grace,
and fittingly, you were the one who taught me about all the saints
My favorite is St. Anthony, I think yours was St. Jude…
and I only now just realized that perhaps my spirituality was gifted from god by the request of you…
You always held Jesus close to your heart,
from your pious Catholic life you would never depart
Your compassion for others was endless, as deep as the color of your sparkling eyes
You taught me what true loyalty meant, no pretense, no guise.
The values you instilled in my mother, and now me, about love and loyalty and conviviality,
I will devotedly share with my future family.
Grandma I took it for granted that you only lived 5 minutes away
I was busy with school and work, big dreams and plans, living in PA
But I knew no matter what I could come home and pop by and you’d welcome me in to stay
None of your grandkids could ever do wrong in your eyes,
no matter what, you’d stand by their side.
Naively I never thought the day would come where you wouldn’t be at home
Christmas and birthdays and gatherings and shopping with me and my mom
I’ll cherish those times 2 years ago before I went to school,
where you’d come to physical therapy and we’d work together and you refused to be made a fool
(I must have also inherited my competitive spirit from you!)
You took those weights and bands like Arnold, careful not to muss your hair
Like the true debutante you were, you even exercised with flair!
The classiest lady, always dressed to the nines, I could still learn a few things from you
And I know as I age and become a mother like you, I’ll continue to learn from the things you would do
Grandma you were the best grandmother anyone could ever ask for, the most.
You gave me one of the greatest gifts-my mother-and I’m so happy you too were so close.
We were all so lucky to have you-I appreciate you and admire you more than you’ll ever know
I say my middle name, Johanna, with pride and I hope I give it the justice that it’s owed.
I will love and miss you forever grandma, and thank you eternally for all the love that you have shown.

What can I say that hasn’t already been said. Your love, your beauty, your tenderness, can never be measured in just words. I want to tell the world about the angel that they just lost. I will always cherish the time I had with you and the 49 years we’ve spent together certainly was not enough. When you left us, a piece of me went with you. I look forward to the day we meet again in Heaven so we can once again be together. I promise to do my best and follow your many examples of how to be a good person, I promise to do my best to be the best husband, father, friend, & sibling that I can be. I LOVE YOU & I know we’ll be together again someday but until then enjoy your time with your parents, your siblings, Jeanie, And all of your friends who are waiting for you in Heaven.

Mom I will love you forever...you showed me how you carried yourself with grace, class and dignity. You might have been short in stature but you were a giant in strength.
I’ll miss our time watching the classic movies of the golden era. I cherished our discussions of all the great stars of the silver screen, but to me you were the most beautiful and brightest star of them all.
There is a hole in my heart, I pray you are safe and at peace. I miss you deeply and will always love you

Nothing can prepare us for loss. God’s word the Bible gives us comfort, it provides hope. “There is going to be a resurrection.” (Acts 24:15) God will restore life to those who have died, and they will have the prospect of living forever in paradise on earth. (Psalms 37:29) This is a promise from God, which we can have confidence in because he “cannot lie.” (Titus 1:2) May this hope comfort your greiving hearts. I am sorry for your loss.

May the God of all comfort give you and your entire family strength during this time of loss. May the peace that comes from the memories of love shared, comfort you and your family and in the days ahead. May the words of 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 “ Blessed be... the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials” bring the entire family comfort and strength. Please accept my sincere condolences.
