I was privileged to serve with Dan as a counselor at Camp DeWitt. He possessed a unique combination of strength and compassion. My enduring memory of Dan was how he became a mentor/big brother/father figure to the Camp’s only special needs child. Dan’s leadership qualities and the esteem in which he was held at Camp Dewitt magnified the effect of his kindness towards this special needs boy: Because both campers and counselors looked up to Dan, the fact that Dan took such an interest in this boy led others to pay more attention to the boy, creating a cascading and positive effect on the boy’s experience at Camp. Because of Dan that boy felt understood, accepted and loved.
I remain inspired by the example Dan set. His demonstration of character ripples through time toward eternity.

Danny was a kind, funny, caring man that had a smile that brought light to our world. I have not been fortunate enough to spend much time around him over the years since Bethany but was so happy to see him the few times I did. To Jen, Sean and Kevin, my heart goes out to you and I pray you’ll always feel the presence of your love as a family when you think of your Dan. Dan was a counselor of mine at Camp DeWitt: he was a great person who was full of spirit, positive energy and goodwill. I was very fond of Dan as everyone at DeWitt who knew him was. Am very saddened to hear of Dan’s passing and my prayers are with him as are my condolences to Dan’s family. Dan made the world as we knew it at Camp DeWitt a better place and am sure he is now in the Lord’s place.

Dan and I go back over 40 years to our days at Bethany College. After our time at Bethany, Dan and I went our separate ways only to reconnected again about 7 years ago. Once we reconnected, Dan was the same kind and thoughtful person I remembered. He was always willing to give his time and an exceptional industry thought leader. Dan was a devoted family man, who would always speak about his wife and children.
I will miss Dan’s council and knowledge, but most of all I will miss Dan – the person. He was someone who I could contact at any time for support.
On behalf of the Onofrio family, I would like to wish our deepest sympathy to the Collins Family. Dan will always be in my heart and knowing him has made a positive impact on my life.

23 years ago Dan took a chance hiring a kid right out of college to work for him. I was the lucky one because I got to spend the next 20 plus years working with him which I will forever cherish! I've known Dan for over 40 years. He has been a great friend since college. Post college, we ended up working in the same industry and frequently helped and advised each other. But Dan is much more then just a historical review. He was a great family man who loved his wife and kids. He was a community person who "gave back" to his town, church and other circles in so many ways. He had a huge heart and would do anything for anyone. He had some many diverse friends and relationships. No one didn't like Dan and he will be hugely missed in this world
