Obituary of James F Isherwood

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James F. (Jim) Isherwood, 89, a former Livingston councilman and dedicated community servant before retiring to Panther Valley in Allamuchy passed away Friday, March 27, 2020. Jim was a longtime Livingston resident, who served on the Livingston Township Council in the 1970s. His early life was defined by public service and he dedicated his time to many township organizations, including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, where he served as a Cub Master with Cub Pack 56 and an Assistant Scoutmaster and Committee Chairman with Scout Troop 12; Kiwanis; the Jaycees; Livingston Youth Service Bureau; the Livingston Division of the Citizens Task Force on Drug Abuse and the Juvenile Conference Committee. He is the recipient of the Jaycees’ Outstanding Young Man award as well as the Silver Beaver Award, among Scouting’s highest honors. An attorney, Mr. Isherwood was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company for more than 40 years, retiring in 1993. Jim served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and later with the Army Reserve, retiring with the rank of Captain. He attended Yale University and later with the help of the G.I. Bill attended Seton Hall Law School, graduating in 1964. An avid photographer, Jim saw much of the world through his camera lens, compiling thousands of photos documenting more than 80 years of history. He loved to travel and spend time at the family’s summer home on Cape Cod. Though his schedule was filled serving the community he called home, he rarely missed a baseball game, Scout meeting or camping trip and he reveled in his three son’s accomplishments, whether athletic, academic or professional. Though his final years weren’t easy, he met them with the same quiet determination with which he met every task, continually setting an example for his family as he faced life’s challenges. James is predeceased by his wife, Mildred A. Isherwood, who died in 2016. The couple had been married for 57 years. He is survived by three children, James (Christina), Brian, and Darryl (Dana) as well as four grandchildren, Allison, Nicholas, Tyler and Quinn. A memorial service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory to Alzheimer's Association alz.org/nj. Arrangements by Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph (Tuttlefh.com)
