Obituary of Victor E Zahn
On Friday, March 26, 2021, Victor Zahn passed away at Regency Grande rehabilitation center at the age of 86 of congestive heart failure. Vic was born on September 9, 1934, in Florham Park to Anna and Frank Zahn. He graduated from Madison High School and went to work for NJ Bell for 35 years, retiring in 1986 from his work as a line manager. Following retirement, Vic went on to work for the remainder of his years as a parts runner for Benkendorf Landscaping in Mine Hill. Vic was a social, community oriented, fun-loving and successful man. Being a civic-minded person, he served the township of Mine Hill for more than 60 years as a volunteer Fireman. He held the distinction of serving the greatest number of years in the Mine Hill Fire Department. Known as the voice of the Mine Hill Firemen’s annual carnival, Vic brought joy to so many. He was also a member of the Elks club, Moose Club, and Deacon at the Mine Hill Presbyterian Church, as well winning the John Ryan Award at the Mine Hill Memorial Post #391 for being a hardworking non-member. Vic loved trains, traveling an average of 10,000 miles a year on Amtrak and Via Rail with his brother Bruce and fellow Florham Park firefighter, Dave Tappen. Lastly, he enjoyed a good drink and a fine meal. The people at Ron’s Landmark in Budd Lake were like family to him, and he frequented restaurants around the state and surrounding areas weekly.
Vic was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine, in 1990, and his son, Barry Kauff, in 2016. He is survived by his daughter Kim Phillips(Rick), his two grandchildren, Catherine(Garrett) and Sean, two nieces, Krista(Greg) and Corinne(Theo) and his brother, Bruce(Barbara). Visiting hours will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 NJ-10, Randolph, (www.tuttlefh.com) on Friday, April 9, 2021 from 4-7. Also at Tuttle funeral home a funeral service will be held at 9:30am on Saturday, April 10. Donations may be sent to Mine Hill Presbyterian Church or the Mine Hill Fire Department. Due to Coronavirus restrictions, a celebration with friends and family will be held at a later date.
