Obituary of James Joseph Holland
James Joseph Holland, Jr. (Jim) passed away July 31st, 2022 at the age of 56. Jim battled cancer for 7 months with a resolve that was nothing short of inspiring.
Jim is survived by his mother Mary Holland, his brother Chris Holland, and his nephews Matthew Holland and Tyler Holland. Jim was predeceased by his father, James Joseph Holland.
Jim was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 6, 1966. Jim attended Delbarton School graduating in 1984 and later graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in history. A lifelong New York Yankees fan, Jim dedicated his life to two main passions - teaching and fly fishing. Jim worked as a history teacher at Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, NJ for over 20 years. Jim took tremendous pride in watching all of his students learn and grow over the years. His commitment and affection for the entire community Villa Walsh community was evident to anyone who had the good fortune of interacting with him.
Jim’s other main life passion was fly fishing. Jim was an owner of Shannon’s Fly and Tackle Shop in Califon, NJ and spent countless hours actively dedicated to improving the health and quality of New Jersey’s rivers and streams. Consistent with his love of teaching, he is remembered as a mentor to many within the fly-fishing community. He also was a regular contributor to a number of fishing periodicals including the Black River Journal as well as the NJ edition of “The Fisherman”. His impact on this world will long be remembered.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 8th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Tuttle Funeral Home located at 272 Route 10, Randolph, NJ. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday August 9th at 1:00 at Saint Lucy Chapel, Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, NJ.
