Obituary of Joseph Gerald Dolan

Joseph Dolan passed away at home on February 12, 2023.  He and his family were lucky enough to have just celebrated his 90^th birthday. 

Joe was born January 23, 1933 in Bronx, NY.  His mother was Alice Hayes Dolan and his father was Edward Dolan.  His father died when he was 13 and his mom remarried to James Porter, the man whom all knew as grandpa.    

Joe attended City College of NY and then joined the Army serving from 1953 to 1955 in the bomb squad where he met Doris in Montauk LI.  In 1956 Joe proposed to what ended up being his lifetime love, after just knowing each other for 6 weeks.  Joe worked at the phone company for 35 years retiring from NYNEX. They moved to Randolph Township in 1968 with their 6 kids. 

In 1969, Joe was a founding father of Randolph Company #5 in the Shongum section of town where he served as Chief from 1988 to 1990. He went on to serve over 50 years on the Randolph Fire Department. He also served as Randolph Twp Deputy and Township Chief from 1992-1994.  He served on many fire associations as secretary, vice president and president on the township, county, and state levels from 1988 through 2015 including serving on the NJ State Firemen Ass. and Randolph Twp Firemen’s Relief Ass. He also served on the Housing Authority from 2001 to 2018. He was a member of the Randolph Twp Senior Club serving as Chairman from 2001 to 2006. He and Doris were voted Senior Citizens of the year in 2000. 

Joseph is survived by his son David (wife Debra) daughters Gail (husband Michael), Doreen, Terri (husband Thomas).  He was predeceased by daughters Diane and Tammy.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.   Joseph was predeceased by his wife Doris in 2018, so she has been waiting for him and we are all sure she scolded him saying its about time. He was also predeceased by his three brothers, Edward, James (Jimmy), and George.

Visitation from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Route 10, Randolph (www.tuttlefh.com).  Funeral Mass 10:00 AM on Saturday, February, 18, 2023 at Resurrection Parish, Randolph. Interment at Hilltop Cemetery, Mendham.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Shongum Mtn Company #5.
