Obituary of Bienvenido Guzman-Baez

Please share a memory of Bienvenido to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Bienvenido Stormy Guzman Baez reunited beyond the veil with his late wife Margaret Sicard on February 19, 2023. He passed surrounded by his three daughters Diana Sandry, Jennifer Farrelly, and Stephanie James. He was aged 79.

Stormy was born March 22 1943, in La Vega Dominican Republic to his father Felix Antonio Sicard and his mother Maria Caridad Baez. As a kid, he loved to play baseball but he also took it upon himself at a young age to get a job and help his mom because he was one of thirteen brothers and sisters. In 1962 at the age of eighteen, he moved to New York City on a work visa. He worked at Barney’s on 17th street as a seamster and drove a parts truck for RCI. After working for a few years in the city he was able to move his mother and family from the Dominican Republic to the United States.

While working and living in New York his sister Jimena became friends with a girl called Margaret Hinkle who would later become his wife. On June 5th, 1965 the two married in New York City where they resided until 1971 when the couple moved to Denville New Jersey to raise their three daughters. Stormy worked many different jobs to support his family from fixing cars and putting additions on homes, to working at Englenman Microwave, KDI Electronics, and Morris Securities.

Stormy was always there to fix any problem his family or friends had and if he didn’t already know how to fix it he would go to night school after work to learn the skill. He had a green thumb and loved his garden where he would grow fruits and vegetables to make healthy meals and smoothies. He also loved exercise and fitness and with that even as he got older he never missed his daily walks around the lake. In retirement, Stormy and his wife traveled a lot together all over the world but the place he loved to go the most was back to the Dominican Republic. He would take his entire family including his grandchildren to the Dominican Republic every chance he got. And before every trip, he would collect as many clothes as he could to give out to those less fortunate.

Stormy was an amazing father but he was an even better grandfather. He loved family reunions because that meant he got to play softball and dominos with his grandchildren. He was a selfless and kind person whenever his brothers, daughters, grandchildren, or friends called he was the first person there to help. His memory will live on through his compassionate heart which touched everyone in his life. He is survived by his siblings

Armando Sicard, Magaly Duran, Constantino Sicard, Domitila Vega, Gregorio Sicard, Josepha Sicard-Mirabal, and Ambiorix Sicard; daughters: Diana Sandry, Jennifer Farrelly, and Stephanie James, 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
