Obituary of William Louis Coyne
William Louis Coyne (1943-2023)
Brilliant historian, compassionate heart, and generous soul – William Louis Coyne of Morris Plains left this life on July 20 at the age of 80. Bill’s spirit, characteristic graciousness and concern for others prevailed during his lifetime.
Bill was born on May 3, 1943, in East Orange, NJ, to parents, Helen and Robert Coyne. He joined 4 siblings, Bob, Joan, Nancy, and Kathy. After graduating from Passaic Valley High School, Bill received his bachelor’s degree in history from William Paterson College and a master’s degree in administration from Seton Hall University. He then began his teaching career of 38 years at Parsippany High School where he instilled the values of knowledge, curiosity, and laughter into the hearts of his students. The imprint was everlasting, as former students regularly expressed gratitude for his guidance and influence. Through his teaching years he demonstrated a deep understanding and love for history which he so readily shared with others. In his free time, Bill was a passionate follower of area High School football, The New York Giants, Yankees and recently Penn State Athletics. He thoroughly enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams with friends and family.
Bill worked hard to provide a beautiful life for his family. He leaves a lifetime of joyous memories to his wife, MaryAnn (Hoelscher) of 57 years, his dear children, Anthony and wife, Maureen, and son, Joseph. He cherished the title “Grandpa” when grandchildren Patrick, Brendan, and Meghan were born. Bill bragged of their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. He is watching over his family with love and pride.
His loss will be mourned by his sister, Kathy Adamczyk, brother-in-law Ted Adamczyk, brother-in-law, Paul Hoelscher, sister-in-law Rosalie Hoelscher, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Bill’s life was filled with joy, pride, and pleasure; this lasting memory is something our grateful hearts will treasure.
