Obituary - Dorothy Mae Foote

Dorothy Mae (Garrett) Foote, a beloved mother, cherished grandmother, and active community member, passed away on November 2, 2023. Born on June 19, 1940 to Samuel and Clyde Garrett, she was the eldest of three children and the only girl in the family. Sadly, her brothers, George and Walter, preceded her in death.

Growing up in Morristown, New Jersey, Dorothy developed a deep love for the Bible and a strong faith in Jesus Christ from a young age. At just nine years old, she accepted Him as her Lord and Savior through a children's Bible club. This marked the beginning of her lifelong commitment to studying the Word and sharing her faith with others.

Dorothy had a passion for singing and relished music of various genres. Her beautiful voice was a testament to her love for the arts. Additionally, she possessed an extraordinary ability to delve into the depths of the Bible, grasping its teachings with profound understanding. Engaging in discussions about faith and spirituality were moments that Dorothy treasured.

Aside from her personal pursuits, Dorothy was deeply engaged in her community. She actively participated in various civic organizations, including the NAACP, Eastern Star, and the Black Heritage Association of Northwest Jersey, which she co-founded. Through her involvement in these organizations, she raised funds, produced impactful programs and events, and emphasized the importance of the Bible and black history.

As a committed member of her church, Dorothy served in many capacities, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to her faith. In November 2005, she was licensed as a minister, and her journey of serving others culminated in her ordination into the ministry on December 10, 2006. Dorothy founded Renewed Woman, Inc., a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering and uplifting individuals facing hardships. Through outreach programs and annual conferences, she tirelessly worked to bring encouragement and hope to those in need.

Throughout her 32-year tenure at the County College of Morris, Dorothy exemplified a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. Starting part-time in 1985. Dorothy steadily progressed in her career, ultimately retiring from the college in 2017. Her commitment and perseverance made a lasting impact on the institution.

Dorothy's deep love for her church knew no bounds. She was an active member of Mt Zion Baptist Church in Boonton, NJ during the early years of her life, faithfully attending services under the guidance of Pastor Owen Rogers. However, it was in July 1993 that she found her church home at Word of Life Christian Ministries. Here, under the compassionate leadership of Pastors Sal and Linda Bellini, Dorothy's connection with her faith community grew stronger than ever before.

Throughout the years, Dorothy's dedication to her church family remained unwavering. She found solace and strength within the walls of her beloved place of worship, continually seeking guidance and support from her fellow believers. Not only was she an active participant in various ministries, but she also used her own personal experiences to uplift and inspire others.

Dorothy's ability to touch and inspire lives was truly exceptional. Her genuine care, compassion, and wisdom left a profound Impact on everyone she encountered. She served as a mentor, confidante, and friend to numerous individuals, always lending an ear and offering support.

Dorothy married Theodore Foote, Jr. in 1967 and they were blessed with two sons, Rik and Jeffry. Family was always paramount to her, and she adored being a grandmother to her four grandchildren, Garrett, Angela, Rian, and Morgan. Rik, her eldest son, found his own happiness in marriage with his loving wife, Rachael. Dorothy wholeheartedly embraced Rachael as a beloved daughter-in-law and cherished the joy their union brought.

In her passing, Dorothy Mae (Garrett) Foote leaves behind a legacy of empathy, faith, and generosity. Her unwavering dedication to her family, community, and faith will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Although her physical presence may be absent, her spirit will forever reside in the hearts of those she touched.

May Dorothy Mae (Garrett) Foote rest in eternal peace, and may her memory be a blessing to all who had the fortune of crossing paths with her.
