Obituary of Joseph G Heredia Sr
Mine Hill - Joseph G. Heredia, Sr. died on Friday December 8, 2023 at Saint Clare’s Denville Hospital from natural causes due to old age. He was 93 years old. Born in Franklin, NJ on February 12, 1930 to the late Jesse and Mary (nee Kasisky) Heredia, he was a 1947 graduate of Franklin High School.
He then served in the U.S. Army Air Forces and was stationed in Japan during the allied occupation at the end of World War II and then at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. He served during the formation of the United States Air Force as a separate branch of the military and attained the rank of corporal. Upon his discharge, he attended Rider College. He worked for the Defense Department as an engineering technician at Picatinny Arsenal. Retiring in 1987 as a branch chief, he then worked in defense contracting for Nomura Enterprise in Dover, from which he retired permanently in 1997.
He was a resident of Mine Hill since 1957 and formerly of Franklin and Denville. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 132 in Franklin and the BPOE Elks Lodge, Dover.
He was predeceased by his wife Georgianna (nee Erickson) in 1995. Brothers Robert Heredia Sr., John Ziluk and sisters Rose Merenda and Mary Pali also predeceased..
Survivors include his son, Joseph G. Jr. of Mine Hill, a brother, Peter Ziluk of Port Orange, Florida and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are private. Burial in the family plot at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover.
