Obituary of Anthony Joseph Ribaudo

Please share a memory of Anthony to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Anthony J. Ribaudo passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023, with his beloved wife of fifty years by his side.  Born in New York City on October 10, 1949, he was the son of Joseph Ribaudo and Letty Ribaudo.

From a young age, Anthony had a curious mind and a love for science.  He received his first microscope as a child, which sparked his lifelong interest in microscopy.  He would go on to become an expert in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).

Anthony graduated from St. Augustine High School in Brooklyn, New York and earned a MS in Geochemistry from Brooklyn College and a MS in Materials Science from Stevens Institute of Technology.

He began his career at AlliedSignal (later on known as Honeywell), where he worked for many years as a Materials Scientist and Microscopist for their Research & Development Division.  While there, he troubleshooted mechanical and structural failure problems for various companies and government agencies, including major airlines, as well as NASA and their Hubble Space Telescope.  One of the family’s fond memories of Anthony was when he was chosen from a pool of hundreds of candidates to appear in a commercial for Allied.  He, his wife and daughter flew out to California to appear in the commercial.  Anthony’s love for teaching and mentoring also lead him to found Honeywell’s annual Science Fair, which invited science students from high schools to visit the Company and learn about the the fields of engineering, materials science and aerospace.

Years later, Anthony worked as a Microscopist for the Forensic Investigation Division of the New York Police Department (NYPD).  He then served as Senior Scientist for TRI Princeton, where he worked on various projects, including carbon nanotube neural tissue engineering and taught students at Princeton University Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), SEM and TEM.  In addition, Anthony taught microscopy at Stevens Institute of Technology and published numerous articles that appeared in science journals throughout his career.

His hobbies included writing, teaching, learning about the latest topics in cosmology, performing magic tricks for his grandchildren, playing his guitar, creating art (“micro-art”) and renovating his home.  But his greatest love was spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, who adored him and will always carry with them their treasured memories of his remarkable spirit.

Anthony is survived by his loving wife, Roseann Ribaudo.  He was a devoted father and inspiration to his daughter Maria Ribaudo Giampietro (husband Michael) and son Anthony Ribaudo (wife Ellen).  He is also survived by his four grandchildren Cora, Anthony, Thomas and Emma, whom he adored, as well as his sister Theresa Ribaudo.
