Obituary of Phyllis M Clemson
Phyllis Clemson, a dedicated educator and loving matriarch, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, at the age of 89, after a valiant battle with dementia.
Phyllis was born and raised in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, she pursued her passion for education. Phyllis's career as a teacher's aide in elementary special education classrooms was not merely a profession; it was a calling. Her empathy, patience, and dedication touched the lives of countless students.
Outside the classroom, Phyllis was a pillar of her community. As an elder and Clerk of Session at the First Presbyterian Church of Stirling, and member of the bell choir, she exemplified steadfast faith and leadership. Her commitment extended to the Long Hill Township Public Library, where she served on the board, advocating for literacy and access to knowledge for all.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James. They were avid birdwatchers, enjoying the beauty of nature, particularly in the Great Swamp Wildlife Management Area. Whether at home, in the Adirondack Mountains, or in Colorado, Phyllis and James found joy in each other's company and the embrace of family and friends.
Phyllis's family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Susan of Randolph, New Jersey, Gregory and Mary Gaylord of Superior, Colorado, and her cherished grandchildren, Abigail, Eric, James, and Emily. Their memories of her warmth, laughter, and unwavering support will live on in their hearts forever.
