Luke Kent Lyons, Jr., age 31, a dedicated Officer of the Millburn Police Department and a United States Marine Corps veteran, tragically passed away on May 19, 2024. Born on August 8, 1992, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Luke was a proud resident of Randolph, NJ. His loving heart illuminated the community, even as he departed this world unexpectedly.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 11 years, Selvette Lyons, their loving children, his parents Miriam and Luke Sr., his brother Anthony Lyons, and his cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear nieces and nephews.
Luke’s journey began as a United States Marine Corps Veteran before joining the Picatinny Arsenal Police Department. He later became an integral part of the Millburn Police Department, where he served as the lead instructor of the drone unit. Luke’s resilience extended beyond his professional life; he was also a cancer survivor.
His life was a tapestry woven with humor, wisdom, and an unwavering love for family. Whether flying drones, tinkering in his science lab with 3D printing, or exploring gadgets, Luke embraced every moment spent with loved ones. His military service took him to San Diego, CA, Japan, Chile, Guam, the Philippines, and Hong Kong, where he collected remarkable stories that brought joy to family and friends.
As a devoted husband and caring father, Luke always prioritized others. His impact as a leading force in the police department will forever resonate with his brothers and sisters in blue. The void left by Officer Lyons’ untimely loss can never be fully healed, but his legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew and admired him.
A Visitation will be held from 3:00PM – 7:00PM on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph. A Funeral Service will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home on Saturday, May 25, 2024, beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will follow the service at Graceland Memorial Park, 1900 Galloping Hill Road, Kenilworth, New Jersey, to begin at 11:30AM.
