Obituary of Robert J Cahill
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert J Cahill, beloved husband and father, on May 24, 2024 at the age of 82.
Bob lived a life full of adventure, from hunting and fishing in the great outdoors to bravely serving as a volunteer firefighter, protecting his community. He was a devoted husband and beloved father, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of courage and love.
Bob was born July 14, 1941 in Morristown, NJ to James F. and Mary E. (nee-Kiely) Cahill. He grew up in Rockaway where he graduated from Morris Hills High School. After high school Bob joined the Army National Guard and began his career at Jersey Central Power & Light Company where he worked for 47 years. Bob was a life member of the Randolph Township Fire Department, Company #2.
In September of 1970 Bob married Sue (nee-Findlay) and they settled in Randolph where they raised their two children, Michael and Colleen.
Bob had a passion for the outdoors; he took many hunting trips to Island Pond, VT and Manitoba, Canada where he enjoyed the serenity of sitting in a tree stand with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He also loved his fishing trips with his brother and nephew to New York State and Canada.
Known for his quiet nature and dry sense of humor, Bob brought warmth and laughter to those around him. His witty remarks and subtle jokes always brought smiles to the faces of his friends and family, making him a joy to be around.
Bob was not only a beloved husband but also the epitome of a loving father. He exemplified the qualities of “best dad” through his unwavering support, guidance, and endless love for his children. His presence will forever be cherished, and his legacy as a remarkable husband and father will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sue, his son Michael and wife Melissa, his daughter Colleen and her husband Tom, his brother James, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the New Jersey Fireman’s Home, 565 Lathrop Ave, Boonton, NJ.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 , at Tuttle Funeral Home, Randolph. A Funeral Service will be held at Tuttle Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 29 beginning at 10:00am. Interment will follow the service at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery, 371 South Main Street, Wharton.
