Obituary of Evmorfia Kapsas
Evmorfia Kapsas (nee Melagropoulos) known as Effie, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born on June 1, 1943 in Promiri, Volos, Greece she grew up on the beach in Platania, Greece. She was the cherished daughter of George and Felitsa Melahropoulos and the beloved wife of Konstantinos Kapsas (known as Gus) who predeceased her.
Effie was a talented sewer who could spin yarn and weave. She worked as a seamstress in Athens Greece, along with her brother John Melahropoulos. After emigrating to the United States, she moved to Paterson, New Jersey in 1969 and worked for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, sewing for Perry Ellis and other brands. In 1975 she moved to Byram, NJ, where she and her husband owned and operated the Mountainside Restaurant with their family. They spent 45 years creating many happy memories and serving their friends, customers, and community.
Devoted to her family, grandchildren, and the St. Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Church, Effie loved baking, cooking, and sewing for them. She was also a great animal lover and caretaker with an extraordinary green thumb. She enjoyed taking walks around her neighborhood and town, visiting her friends.
She is survived by her daughters Penelope Kapsas, Felicia (Kapsas) Esposito (husband Joseph) and Eleni Kapsas; her grandchildren Samantha Kapsas, Ryan Kapsas-Murarik, Raymond Kapsas and Joseph Esposito; and her nephews Theodore and George Melahropoulos and all her loving nieces and nephews from her husband's side. Her angelic spirit, smile and laughter will be missed by all.
