Obituary of Joseph Patrick Burbridge

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's R.C. Church, Wharton, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 29th, 2010 Mr. Joseph Patrick Burbridge, 83, of Mine Hill passed away Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 at at home, Mine Hill Township following a long illness. Lifelong resident of Mine Hill. Mr. Burbridge was born in Morristown. He attended St. Mary's School in Wharton, Dover High School and Morristown Beard School. He was a Parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church, Wharton. He served in the U.S. Army in WW II. Member of the 3rd Battalion, 47th Infantry of General Pattons 3rd Army. Served sixteen months in the European Theater of Operations and participated in the Central Europe Campaign. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge and was honorably discharged in 1946. He worked as a Butcher at the A. & P. Tea Company in Randolph. Participated in Mine Hill community service as a charter member of the Mine Hill 1st Aid Squad, was a Mine Hill Township Committeman for several years and was the Mayor of Mine Hill in 1963, 67,75 and 76. He was a member of the Mine Hill American Legion Post #391 for over 60 years. Survived by his wife of 59 years, Elaine M., four sons Joseph and his wife Cindy of Dover, James and his wife Joan of East Greenwich, RI, Thomas and his wife Nancy of Randolph, and Patrick of Mine Hill. Also survived by nine grandchildren: Ryan, Conor, Michael, Timothy, Courtney, Bryan, Emily, Matthew and Griffin; three great-grandchildren: Olivia, Sophia, and Dylan; his brother John E. and his wife Mary Ellen of Mine Hill and his sister-in-law Angela Burbridge of Mine Hill. Predeceased by his parents John A. and Esther S. Burbridge and his brother Francis Burbridge. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 28th, 2010, 3 - 7 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 State Route 10 West, Randolph. (www.tuttlefh.com) A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's R.C.
