What can I say? I have so, so many wonderful memories from being friends with MaryEllen for 75 years. I could write a book but will mention a few. My family moved across the street from her when I was six years old. One of the first memories was when I went to first grade and had Miss Fictor for my teacher. During the year she married Mar's uncle and became Mrs. Lambert. MaryEllen said it wasn't fair that she didn't have her aunt as her teacher.
We played dolls in her attic, marbles in my driveway and always enjoyed picking lilacs and violets for our mothers. She could always pick faster and more than me. We got in trouble for roasting potatoes under her porch, throwing apple cores in the bush at her house and stuffing peach pits in my Dad's tent poles.
Through our teenage years we had many great times listening to records and dancing with our friends and "husbands to be" in my basement.
After getting married and having Mar as my maid of honor we moved away. Four years later we moved back to N.J. and raised our families, still remaining best of friends.
In 1972 we moved to N.C. and didn't get to see each other as much, but always kept in touch and visited when we came to N.J.
We lost our beloved husbands two years apart and then shared road trips and a cruise to Alaska and the Panama Canal with our good friend Phyllis.
I am so sorry I was unable to attend MaryEllen's services. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to all of the family. She will always be my "Best Friend Forever."
