Obituary of Mary Ellen Enslin

Please share a memory of Mary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mary Ellen Enslin, a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on June 3, 2024. She was 82 years old. Along with her sometimes wry sense of humor, Mary Ellen (also affectionately known as “Mom” and “G-ma”) proved throughout her life to be a funny yet kind, caring, and thoughtful role model for her children. Devoting her life to raising five children and providing a model for all generations to follow, she provided a steadfast level of support while instilling quality morals throughout her life.

Mary Ellen loved trying new experiences and visiting new places with her family. She was both creative and crafty, and had wonderful artistic tendencies which were greatly appreciated by her family. She also was most definitely a very underrated singer, who enjoyed singing throughout the day, and enjoyed playing the piano in her prior years. She also enjoyed gardening, even up through her final months. An expert in the kitchen, she loved cooking and baking, but most of all she loved to do these things as a means to spend time with her family.

Growing up in Dover, NJ, she met and eventually married her teenage sweetheart, James Robert Enslin. After being wed at Sacred Heart Church of Dover in September of 1962, the couple settled in Mount Arlington, NJ, where Mary has resided for the last 62 years. Mary Ellen and Jim experienced no greater joy in their lives than when they welcomed their first born son in 1963, followed by four more children in the years to come. They raised their children together, instilling good morals and the value of hard work. Their joy and happiness continued to reach even higher levels, as the children chose spouses which Mary welcomed into her heart as her own children. Their first grandchild was born in 1992, and with each coming grandchild added to the family, Mary Ellen's heart would somehow grow more and more filled with love. There was nothing in the world more important to Mary Ellen than her family, which she loved with every ounce of her being. She has left behind a legacy that will always be remembered and whose values will be passed upon for generations, never to be forgotten.

Mary Ellen was predeceased by her mother Marjorie, her father Charles, her husband James Robert, and her son James Michael. She is survived by Helen (widow of James Michael), her son Joseph and wife Karen, her daughter Jennifer and husband Matthew Kellam, her daughter Heidi and husband Ezequiel Velez, and her son Charles. She also leaves behind many more loving family members, including her grandchildren: Joseph, Nicole, Hailey, Elise, Hannah, Alexander, Gregory, Matthew, and Marcus.
